Malaysian factory outbreak, foreign workers attract attention
The outbreak in Malaysia has reached a new high since November, with a maximum of 2,000 newly diagnosed cases in a single day. There are frequent outbreaks of epidemics in labor gathering places such as construction sites, factory stations, and airport freight. The largest surgical glove manufacturer, the top glove factory, broke out a super transmission group, and the authorities are controlling the spread of the epidemic.
The factory announced that there are 28 factories in the Klang area, and currently all 20 factories have been suspended due to the epidemic. Several ambulances were seen at the scene, and some workers were queuing to get on the vehicles for isolation.
The top glove factory has a total of 21,000 employees in Malaysia. The related infection group has been tested and 6,553 people have been diagnosed with 4124 people, of which 80% are foreign workers. Nur Hisham, director of the Ministry of Health, said that four new workplace clusters have been reported recently. The authorities are negotiating with factory companies to improve the working and living conditions of foreign workers. Screening of the working population is ongoing and will last for several weeks.
The Ministry of Health confirmed that the gloves produced by this company were not found to be contaminated. In response to the recent confirmation of the coronavirus from North American frozen containers in Tianjin, China, Noor Hisham said he was also concerned about the report. Noor Hisham said that the virus has not been introduced into Malaysia from frozen meat products. He also said that the virus strains circulating in different countries are mutating, and it is necessary to conduct virus research and vaccine experiments locally.
